Rose Corset

I had been aching to make something unplanned.  Something wild and impulsive...BUT I know I have a problem buying fabric for projects willy-nilly, and as I am trying to save money I decided to use what I have in my stores.

I had other plans for this chiffon, namely a beautiful Regency ballgown.  But that project kept being pushed off and pushed off because I have nowhere to wear a Regency gown.  So instead it became a corset.

I built the base of the corset, then started pleating the layers of chiffon.  I really wanted to emphasis the bust and hips to create the illusion of a tiny waist.  I have yet to successfully draft a tight lace corset pattern.

I really wanted  21" waist and 33" hips.  I usually have 24" to 34", so it isn't that much of a reduction, but I just can't seem to get it right.  This time was no different.  Ah well.

I was watching The White Queen while making this corset and was really inspired, so I pulled out some spare Worbla and started making a waist piece.

And a crown, because, WHY NOT?

I had a crap ton of this gold leaf trim left from last year's Myth Masque costume, so I hand sewed that around the biased edges.

I dragged my mother out to The Groves in Gilbert to take pictures of me.  I am SO bad at taking pictures.
Maybe if I pick up a stick it will look cool...and woodsy? No.

But somehow, in the midst of a million pictures taken, some manage to come out looking decent.
