Daphne from Dragons Lair: Part 2

Fenix Fox was nice enough to grab a few photos of my cosplay while we were in the studio. Here they are!

This shoot was really hard for me. I don't feel comfortable with all my skin hanging out, I'm terrible at cute or sexy poses, and Daphne's poses are ridiculous. That all made it quite difficult to achieve normal looking photos. But I made this costume as a test for myself, and I wouldn't back down, no matter how uncomfortable I was. So we got these photos. And I'm relieved it's over.

Thanks for reading!

Daphne: Dragon's Lair Part 1

At Comicon I met Don Bluth *screams*

He was promoting his crowd funding in order to make a movie based on the video game Dragon's Lair. I got pretty excited about the project...Daphne is like Thumbelina's sexy twin. So I HAD to cosplay her.

But as soon as I decided that I freaked out. I don't DO sexy cosplay. I like intricacy and layers and accuracy. That is what I find most appealing in a costume. Daphne's costume is a skimpy, bathing suit thing...
So. Much. Skin.

But I gritted my teeth and told myself that I could do this.

I had never made a bunny suit before, but I have made plenty of corsets before. They're pretty much the same.

I drafted a pattern, then transferred it to my fabric.
I had some left over yellow and white fabric that I used for the boning channels.

I put snaps in the crotch because I thought it might make it easier to get in and out of. Wrong. It just made doing any strenuous moving completely impossible.

Aragorn: Lord of the Rings

I started building my boyfriend a companion costume to my Arwen, but I learned that he wouldn't be coming home in time to go to Comicon with me, so I ended up not finishing the costume. It's piled away somewhere with one more sleeve to do; one day i'll finish it. But I did want to share the photos of my progress.

Sleeve smocking!

Arwen Umdomiel: River Dress Part 2

In addition to wearing the costume to Comicon, I also worked with Fenix.Fox to get some nice photos of it.

Phoenix Comicon

Grandmother! This Galadriel's hair was SO on point. I am jealous of her curling abilities.
Ehhhh...ut oh
Arwen did not keep her cool when talking with Brandon Sanderson. Much fangirling ensued.

Arwen Undomiel: River Dress Part 1

I've been dying to make this costume for a long time, and it seemed like Comicon this year was the perfect excuse to make it.

I drafted the pattern by draping on my dress form using an old sheet from Goodwill.

The sleeves have an intricate design on them that, from what I could tell, is either embossed or embroidered. I was not going to hand embroider this on two sleeves and embossing wasn't working well with the fabric I picked. So instead I used fabric paint, which I think tuned out quite well.

I created  her belt from scraps of worbla, which I spray painted silver when finished.

The dress itself came together quite easily, and was ready to wear!

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Part 2

Fenix.Fox was amazing and took these photos for me on Mt. Lemmon. Guys. They turned out so FANTASTICALLY!

Yes...that's real fire. Yes...I had a bucket of sand and a liter of water on stand-by.

Hope you enjoyed the photos!
