Queen Idun of Arendelle

It’s Thrifty Thursday time once again!

For those of you who have never seen my Thrifty Thursday projects, I go to Goodwill and buy $20 of things to make a costume out of.

This month I decided to do Idun of Arendelle.

I think she is highly underrated by the Frozen cosplaying community.  Plus she has brown hair, as do I, which meant no wig.  Thank. Goodness.

I bought a blue and red pillow case, a light blue sheet, a purple sheet, a black curtain, and a chunk of purple velvet.

I was super lazy and didn’t feel like wasting muslin to drape a pattern, so I trusted my instincts and just started cutting.  90% of the time this doesn’t work…but miraculously this time everything fit perfectly!

I embroidered all the flower designs and scalloped the edge of the skirt where I attached the velvet.  The dress closes with a zipper.

The robe had trim of red and blue which I made from the pillow cases, attached to the robe, and then painted the design on.

The shirt is, unfortunately, the wrong color.  It is too dark and too shiny :/  If I ever wear this to a con or an event I will definitely be making a new shirt.

Here is the finished costume!

Have a suggestion for a future Thrifty Thursday?  Leave me a comment!  I always need new ideas, though I do have a Pinterest board chalk full of future cosplay wishes!

    1. Hi Nancy! I apologize, I thought I answered this! :( I do not have a pattern; I drape all of mine specifically for the client's sizes (or mine in this case). That being said, finding pattern pieces should be easy-ish for this costume. The blue shirt is a front closing, long sleeve blouse with a Mandarin collar. The purple dress is basically a strapless gown, with an added scalloped edge on the hem. And the overdress is basically a Regency Open Robe. Hopefully this helps, sorry I could not be more helpful!

  3. Is it all one piece or does it come together in the front?

    1. Hello there :) The costume is three pieces. The blue shirt, the purple dress, and the open robe, which yes, does come together at the front (the heart clasp is functionable).

  9. Hi Kelsie. I loved your Queen Idun costume. I am helping a Drama teacher with the costumes for Frozen Jr. play. I found your costume and is giving me some ideas. But I want to know if you are willing to sell this one. Please, let me know. I couldn't find any place I could contact you directly. Thank you very much.

  12. Good afternoon would you consider selling this one if it were a size medium or large? Or would you consider making one. this would mean the world to me as we are doing Halloween at home because I’m gravely ill and cannot go out north come I son because it’s too risky to me so we are making a little party with my parents for him inside our house. Thank you for your consideration
